A tax filing status of "married, filing joint" on a report from the government can be a little surprising when you've never been married – let alone never filed taxes. It is what some students have seen on their Student Aid Report (SAR) when they completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) since October 1. Fortunately, Federal Student Aid (FSA) has identified the problem and is taking steps to correct the issue as outlined in an Oct. 27 Electronic Announcement. Although the problem on the FAFSA has been fixed, student records impacted by the issue will need to be reprocessed. FSA will provide additional details soon on the reprocessing of student records impacted by the issue, and Mapping Your Future will share that information when it becomes available.
