It can make winter more tolerable. Snow days — those surprise days off from school or work that evoke joy in every man, woman, and child lucky enough to enjoy one. Of course, those who work from home or live in warmer climates rarely get to experience those feelings of elation because of a snow day. Yeah, it's sunny and 76 degrees at my location in Texas right now. Hazardous weather conditions can impact financial aid – if a loan servicer or federal operations center is impacted. The Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) issued an Electronic Announcement on Jan. 18, providing information about possible closures if hazardous weather conditions occur. As someone who has lived in a colder climate, I know that a closure in a northern state only comes when the weather is truly severe. In the meantime, in southern states, it will take only an inch of snow to shut down a city. Right now, while we are wearing shorts and flip flops in Texas, a snow day seems like a distant fantasy. But tomorrow is Groundhog Day. Maybe we'll be in for a surprise.
