Sudden retirement for student aid app

Applying for federal student aid? There won't be an app for that.
The U.S. Department of Education announced on June 28 that they plan to retire the myStudentAid mobile app on June 30 due to low use. According to the Department, students and parents are most often using desktop computers or mobile devices to access the FAFSA and other financial aid services on the StudentAid.gov website - instead of downloading the mobile app.
According to the Department, the elimination of the app doesn't take away financial aid functionality from students and parents since they have all those features on the StudentAid.gov website. In addition, the website is mobile friendly so parents and students can easily use the site and complete the FAFSA on their mobile device.
Schools won't likely see any impact from this change, but the Department reminds schools to remove any references to the myStudentAid mobile app in printed materials or on websites.
