If you have been selected for verification, it means you will need to provide documentation to verify the information you supplied on your financial aid applications.

Just like it sounds, verification is the process for verifying the information provided on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).   The process was put in place to ensure that federal financial aid dollars are being appropriately awarded and based on accurate information provided by the recipients.

About 30 percent of federal financial aid recipients are selected to go through the verification process either by the U.S. Department of Education or by a school (college or university).

If you were selected for verification, it doesn't necessarily mean that you have done anything wrong. It may have been for any of the following reasons:

If you are selected for verification, your school will ask you for information based on what they need to verify.  You will likely be asked to complete a verification form(s) and provide additional documentation. The school will not award financial aid to you until verification is complete, so you should respond promptly to any requests for information.
