Knowing the code is key to financial aid
May 01, 2019
Higher Education institutions all have names - sometimes a reflection of the institution's location or history.
However, in addition to the names, there is also a secret code for schools. Okay, it's not so secret. In fact, it's a good idea that you know how to find out these codes before you apply for financial aid.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will ask for the Title IV code for the institutions where you plan to apply for admission. The institutions you list will receive the information you put on the FAFSA and will consider you for financial aid.
There is an easy search function within the FAFSA to help you get the code but if your school has multiple locations, you'll want to make sure you choose the location you plan to attend. Most schools include their Title IV code on the financial aid page of their website.
The Department of Education also has a convenient tool online to help you determine the code of the institutions you want to list on the FAFSA or if you need the code for reasons.
Now you know the secret, well not so secret, code.
