Emoji Day |
||||||||||||||||
I am breaking the number 1 rule of World Emoji Day. I am communicating using words instead of all emojis. In my defense - the rule really only applies to text messages and not to email or online communications. So why is today, July 17, known as World Emoji Day? Well, if you look at the calendar emoji, and it says July 17. Apple is celebrating this year's World Emoji Day by announcing it will release 20 new emojis. In any case, the significance of this day is how our communication is changing and how that change may affect how we communicate with the students we serve. This Fast Company article points out how the underlying idea of emojis can serve a valuable purpose in our work. The purpose of emojis is fast and to-the-point communications, and that is a reflection of how current and future students (and maybe everyone) wants to communicate. In other words, communicate clearly and keep it brief, which is the number 1 rule of good communications. | ||||||||||||||||
