If you want to get a jump on the 2021-22 FAFSA verification season, you can now get a look at what a school or an applicant may be required to verify.

The September 3, 2020 Final Rules (published in the Federal Register) includes a notice announcing the 2021-22 FAFSA information that an institution and an applicant may be required to verify, as well as the acceptable documentation for verifying FAFSA information.

In the final rules, the Secretary of Education addresses the impact of the pandemic on verification, stating that:

For the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 award years, the Secretary has issued and continues to issue guidance that provide flexibilities to the verification regulations to help institutions and applicants deal with the challenges resulting from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The Secretary will extend the effective period of its guidance to include the 2021-2022 award year if circumstances warrant an extension and will inform the public of such an extension at the appropriate time.

The Final Rules include a chart with the information to be verified and a list of acceptable documentation.
