If your weekend plans involve completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you may want to adjust your plans.

Students and parents are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible, but this weekend may not be a good time since many federal student aid websites will be unavailable.

Any federal website that requires the FSA ID functionality will be down this weekend according to the October 26 Electronic Announcement from the Department of Education. During the period November 3 at 11:00 p.m. Eastern to November 4 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern, the Department has planned important system work that will impact several Federal Student Aid websites and systems.

Additionally, on November 11 and 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern each day, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) will be unavailable as the IRS completes critical system upgrades.

Users who try to access the systems may receive an error message that the site cannot be found or that the site is unavailable due to maintenance.
