Technology

Love it or hate it. Trust it or doubt it. No matter where you stand on the great technology debate, there is no denying we are on the verge of some major changes within higher education.

Not that I have any special prescient ability. Certainly, this change is taking place right now in every industry and we have been through similar periods of dramatic change in the past.

However, as far as technology is concerned, recent developments in the fields of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, blockchain, and the Internet of things (to mention just a few), are laying the groundwork for new ways to educate students. Add those advancements to the fact that a new generation is entering college now and we are likely to see some major changes in the next decade. Generation Z, by the way, is a generation wanting more control and more options and will likely demand that of higher education and, by extension, financial aid.

The work we do will change in the near future, and while technology may replace some of that work, the need for human interaction remains. Research has shown that even Generation Z wants face-to-face communication - and that's a generation that has grown up trusting and loving technology.
