Application deadline nearing for Work Colleges Program application

By Catherine Mueller

January 31, 2019

If your school is interested in participating in the Work Colleges Program, only about a month remains before the application for the 2019-2020 award year must be submitted.

A Jan. 30 Electronic Announcement reminds financial aid professionals that any school interested in participating in the Work Colleges Program for the 2019-20 Award Year (including schools that are currently participating in the 2018-19 Award Year) must apply no later than March 4, 2019. This deadline applies to both the electronic submission and the required signed paper copy (signed by the school's Chief Executive Officer/CEO).

In the announcement, the Department of Education reminds financial aid professionals that the Work Colleges Application is not an application to participate in the FWS Program.

As a Work-College participating in the Work-Colleges Program, the institution among other things must require all resident students who reside on campus to participate in a comprehensive work-learning program. The institution may only award and pay funds under the Work-Colleges Program to those students who have a financial need. The Work-Colleges Program award given to a student must not exceed the student's need. Resident students without a financial need and resident students whose need has been met must be paid with only institutional funds.
