Department of Education offers online training for financial aid professionals

Completing the necessary paperwork to participate in some of the federal financial aid programs is a big responsibility. If you have that duty as a part of your job description, there's some help available for this assignment.

In an August 8 Dear Colleague Letter (DCL), the U.S. Department of Education announces the availability of Federal Student Aid's online training module that assists with completing the Fiscal Operations Report for 2018-19 and the Application to Participate for 2020-21 (FISAP).

The online, self-paced training module focuses on the Fiscal Operations Report for 2018-19 and Application to Participate for 2020-21 (FISAP). This FISAP is available on the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) website and must be submitted no later than October 1, 2019 by schools that participate in the Federal Perkins Loan (Perkins Loan) Program, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Program, and Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program.

The training reviews the sections of the FISAP, identifies changes made to the current FISAP, and discusses the most commonly made errors when completing the form. The training is intended for financial aid and business office staff who are responsible for completing the FISAP, especially those who are new to completing the form.

The "Completing the 2020-2021 FISAP" training module will be available on the Federal Student Aid E-Training website, located at https://fsatraining.ed.gov.

To access the training, log in to Federal Student Aid E-Training with your username and password. After logging in, select "Learning Tracks" from the main menu bar. From the drop-down menu that appears, choose "FISAP 2020-2021" and then select "Enroll Me" to launch the course.
