FAFSA completion impacted by IRS outage on October 6

If you plan to complete your 2020-21 FAFSA over the weekend, you may want to avoid doing so during the day on Sunday, Oct. 6. That is, if you want to avoid entering your federal tax information manually.

The U.S. Department of Education has announced that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) will be unavailable on Sunday, October 6, 2019, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) as the IRS completes critical system upgrades.

During this outage period, students and parents can access fafsa.gov, the myStudentAid mobile app, and StudentLoans.gov. However, if FAFSA applicants need to enter federal tax information, the tax information will need to be provided manually.
