The cost of no education |
||||||||||||||||
A college degree could be the secret to living a longer life. At a time when the value of higher education is being questioned, a study released earlier this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveals that life expectancy is falling for those without a bachelor's degree. The study reveals that on average, those with a college degree live about three years longer than those without a college degree. When considering the return on investment (ROI) for a college degree, the findings underscore the importance of considering more than just the financial gain. Of course, in addition to the quantity of life, the quality of life (which this study and others have shown improves with education) should also be a part of the ROI calculation. After all, a college degree should not just contribute to a long life, but to a long life well lived. | ||||||||||||||||
