StudentAid.gov to be only site for students, parents to create federal financial aid login

To make StudentAid.gov a one-stop location for all federal financial aid functions, the Department of Education announced it will retire the previous website used for creating an FSA ID.
The FSA ID is the username and password used by students and parents to log in to the StudentAid.gov website or mobile app to apply for federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is also where students and parents can complete required loan counseling, file the renewal FAFSA every year and retrieve information about their federal financial aid, including student loans.
In the past, students and parents have gone to FSAID.ed.gov to create a username and password, but in 2019 most customers created and managed their FSA IDs using StudentAid.gov and the myStudentAid mobile app.
According to the Department of Education, the FSAID.ed.gov website will be retired on April 25, 2021, and legacy FSAID.ed.gov website links will be redirected to StudentAid.gov. The automatic redirects will be in place for at least one year.
The Department advises financial aid and college access professionals to update communications to reflect the new website link.
