At a time when communication among humans seems to be lagging, new advancements are being made in human to dog communication. If you haven't already seen the social media posts, there are some amazing videos with dogs using buttons to talk to the people in their lives. Inspired by these videos, my daughter is currently teaching our dog, Libbie, to use the buttons to communicate. She's starting with a button that says "treat!" and then she gives Libbie a treat. Our progress so far is slight, which maybe is a good thing. Otherwise, Libbie might never leave the button alone. I am now thinking maybe we should have started her training with a different word. In any case, the training is a reminder that good and effective communication is hard work. While I am really excited about the prospect of enhancing communication with Libbie, I would also like a button that would make all human communication completely understood. – By Catherine Mueller | ||||||||||||||||
