Students and parents who have a new year's resolution to complete the Free Application for Federal Student AID (FAFSA) may want to just sleep in on the morning of Saturday, January 7.

Students and parents will be able to access the FAFSA on Saturday, but the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) will be down for planned maintenance. So, anyone completing the FAFSA Saturday morning will have to enter their financial information manually.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, the DRT will be unavailable between 6 a.m.-noon Eastern time on Saturday, January 7.

The planned outage will also impact the Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) Plan Request. Borrowers will be able to access the IDR Plan Request, but alternative documentation of income may need to be provided.

The Department of Education said applicants may wish to complete these applications after the outage is over.
