Department working to modernize grants and financial management website
July 20, 2023
Just in time for fall disbursement, the Department of Education will take the first step in transition to a new grants and financial management website.
This website serves as the location for institutions to request and receive funds for Title IV programs, report on expenditures, and adjust funding drawdowns. In a July 19 Electronic Announcement, the Department reminds financial aid professionals that a new G6, replacing the old G5 website will debut on August 7.
In this first step, the only changes users will experience are a new G6 home page, a new website address (g6.ed.gov), and a new option to log in to the site. There will be a redirect in place to the new G6 website from the old G5 website to make the transition smooth for users. In addition, users will be able to log in to G6 through Login.gov, a secure sign in service operated by the U.S. General Services Administration.
The Department said users will not see changes to major system functionality until late in calendar year 2023.
The Department encourages users to prepare for these changes and any resulting operational impacts. Users should monitor the current website and communications from the Department for additional information about the transition.
