Department of Education updates draft 2024-25 Draft FAFSA Specifications Guide

A new edition of the FAFSA Specifications Guide is available with three new volumes included.
The Department of Education last week updated its draft 2024-25 FAFSA Specifications Guide, adding the following volumes:
- Volume 7 – Comment Codes
- Volume 8 – Agency Matches
- Volume 9 – Testing and Web Demo System
In an August 11 Electronic Announcement, the Department said the volumes in the guide contain FAFSA Processing System (FPS) technical and processing information for the 2024–25 award year. The guide gives financial aid administrators, software vendors, and other vested stakeholders time to understand and prepare for these upcoming changes under FAFSA Simplification.
According to the Department, the FAFSA Simplification Act represents a significant overhaul of federal student aid, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, need analysis, and many policies and procedures for schools that participate in the Title IV programs.
