Push to increase FAFSA completion before graduation

For high school seniors, the next few weeks will be critical to getting their FAFSA completed.

As of March 29, approximately 35 percent of the high school class of 2024 have submitted a FAFSA, a 27 percent drop in completions compared to the same period last year – a decrease which for the most part can be attributed to the challenges students and families have faced with the new FAFSA.

Mapping Your Future’s goal is to have as many students as possible complete the FAFSA before graduation. Students who complete the FAFSA are more likely to pursue postsecondary education and won’t miss out on important funds to help pay for their education.

Unfortunately, if students don’t complete the FAFSA before graduation, they may lose their connection to important help at their school. High school counselors play a critical role in helping students and families with FAFSA completion and Mapping Your Future is available to support counselors, by providing FAFSA support and events.

To promote FAFSA completion, the White House is hosting the FAFSA Week of Action, April 15-19. In conjunction with the FAFSA Week of Action, Mapping Your Future has scheduled two Zoom meetings for students, parents, and educators. The Zoom meetings will provide important information and tips about completing the FAFSA, as well as time for individual questions.

Students, parents, and educators are invited to register to join Mapping Your Future for these presentations and question and answer sessions on Tuesday, April 16 or Friday, April 19. The registration links and times of the presentations are:

• Tuesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. Central
• Friday, April 19 at 11 a.m. Central
