To recognize and perhaps encourage postsecondary institutions to develop student success programs on their campus, the Department of Education is considering a new awards program.
In the April 25 Federal Register, the Department announced it is interested in developing an award system to recognize institutions of higher education that are supporting success across all of their students by “conferring affordable credentials of value that lead to economic success while enrolling student bodies reflective of their communities – including students from underserved populations.”
In the Register notice, the Department requests comments on how to understand institutions’ efforts to ensure success in postsecondary education in order to evaluate and select institutions to receive the award. The Department said it is seeking feedback on what information the Department should request or require of institutions that are invited to apply and what information should be used to determine which institutions should be selected to receive the award.
