Financial aid professionals have probably noticed that recent ISIR loads have included some reprocessed 2024-25 FAFSA records.
A recent Electronic Announcement from the Department of Education details information about the reprocessed records, with each being assigned a separate Reprocessing Reason Code.
The reprocessed record categories include:
- Reprocessing Reason Code “12” – These records were impacted when assets for either the student or contributor were collected and used in calculating the Student Aid Index (SAI), even though the applicant met the criteria exempting them from reporting assets. Only 21 records had no SAI after reprocessing and will require a correction to provide the missing data required to calculate an SAI.
- Reprocessing Reason Code “13” –These records included paper FAFSAs which were in a reject status due to a data inconsistency in a backend system. Of the reprocessed records, 1,402 rejected and still require action with instructions outlined in the comment code.
- Reprocessing Reason Code “14” – These records included conflicting information about when the FTI and manually reported non-filer status existed on the same ISIR. The Electronic Announcement includes information on how to handle any of these records that may still be rejected and require corrections to calculate the SAI.
Ongoing Conflicting Information
The Department also acknowledged that an ongoing conflicting information issue remains when there is FTI and manually reported non-filer status on the same ISIR. While it has been improved, it continues to be an issue for some students. The Department has made it a priority to fully resolve this issue with a fix being deployed in the first quarter of 2025.
Once the planned deployment occurs, another round of reprocessing of impacted records will occur. Until the fix is in place, schools can follow the guidance in GEN-24-71 to resolve conflicting information by making a correction in the FAFSA Partner Portal or by having students make the needed corrections.
