ACT test takers now have a shorter test and the option of taking the science section.

Last spring, ACT introduced enhancements to the national test online and those enhancements have now been extended to national paper-pencil test takers. These enhancements include:

  • Reduced number of questions
  • Shortened test time
  • More time per question
  • Reduced answer choices for math questions (from 5 to 4)
  • Optional science test
  • Updated composite score for all ACT tests

According to ACT, the enhancements are designed to allow students to finish the test faster and feel less rushed, as well as allowing more time for each question.

Students who are considering not taking the science section of the ACT test should check with the school or college they plan to attend to determine whether the science section is required for admission.

Students can take the ACT Practice Test, Free Online Practice Quizzes, or the Full-Length Practice Test on the ACT website at https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/test-preparation/free-act-test-prep/act-online-test-sample-questions.html.
