Tip of the Week
Auld Lang Syne
Often my appreciation for the precious is late in arriving.
It may be something I’ve taken for granted, seen or heard but never took the time to understand. Sometimes, it just takes a nudge to help me grow in my appreciation.
Such was the case this past holiday with Robert Burns’s “Auld Lang Syne.”
Like all of us, I’ve heard the song, maybe thousands of times. But to be honest, the song wasn’t something I preferred. Until I heard this version by The Hound + The Fox this past holiday season.
When I heard this version of the song, I paid more attention to the lyrics and realized how it is the perfect song for the new year.
The song reflects on the past – when we “picked the daises fine” and “wandered many a weary foot” and yet cheers on the future with “and there’s a hand my trusty friend” and “we’ll take a cup of kindness yet.”
A gentle reminder to appreciate it all – both the good and bad – for the sake of auld lang syne.
