Tip of the Week
Change of plans
“Life is short, see as much art as you can!”
That’s what my sister said to me, trying to convince me to come to St. Louis this weekend so I could see the Anselm Kiefer exhibit “Becoming the Sea” at the St. Louis Art Museum.
When I read the CBS article about the exhibit, I knew she was right. Just as many people are drawn to the river or the sea, I felt drawn to this exhibit. After all, water from the rivers, oceans, and seas are at the core of our existence. And, an art exhibit celebrating that, what could be more life affirming?
So, I made plans – booked hotels, arranged care for the dogs – and was ready to head to St. Louis on January 23.
Today, I am cancelling my plans. Mother Nature had her own plans, and it looks like we’re in for one heck of a storm over several states. It won’t be a good weekend for travelers.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed but isn’t this a part of the cycle of life? These storms, while frightening, often bring some of that moisture we’ll need later this year. Missing an exhibit seems like a small sacrifice. And while I would love to see the exhibit, I would much rather be cozy by the fire in my own house if I can avoid sliding off the road or being stuck out in cold sub-zero temperatures somewhere.
While I still plan to see as much art as I can, my plans now are to be as safe as I can.
I hope your plans are the same.
