Deadline approaching for colleges to provide access to campus-based financial aid

Clock face in front of a calendar page.

Students who need extra funds to attend college can often benefit from access to campus-based federal financial aid.

Schools and colleges wanting to participate in federal campus-based programs have until late April to apply for a waiver to the requirement of providing a share of the funds for the program.

The Department outlined in a recent Electronic Announcement that institutions designated as Title III institutions can receive a waiver of the non-federal share requirement for the FWS and FSEOG funds awarded to students for the 2026-27 award year.

Schools can check their eligibility status by going to the “Application for Designation as an Eligible Institution” on the OPE/IS website.

When OPE/IS determines that an institution is eligible for a Title III program, the institution will automatically receive the waiver of the non-federal share requirement, and no further action is required.

Institutions not currently designated as Title III and wanting to do so must complete the “Application for Designation as an Eligible Institution” by April 23, 2026.

Questions about Title III eligibility can be directed to the U.S. Department of Education at the address listed in the announcement or by emailing Nemeka Mason-Clercin at Nemeka.mason@ed.gov.

Questions about the Title III waiver of the FWS and FSEOG non-federal share requirement should be directed to the FSA Partner and School Relations Center at 1-800-848-0978 or by emailing CODSupport@ed.gov.
