As your senior year winds down, you may find yourself distracted with plans for prom, your graduation celebration, and summer. Don’t forget to stay focused on school so you can finish your high school career strong. Below is a checklist of things you should complete during the month of May:

  • Complete the FAFSA at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa if you haven’t already.
  • If you have completed the FAFSA, make sure to review your FAFSA Submission Summary.
  • Check your email and the student portal of the college you plan to attend to make sure you don’t miss any important messages or instructions, particularly those related to your financial aid offer and/or summer orientation.
  • Be aware of any summer orientation sessions that you must attend at the school in which you will enroll and make plans accordingly.
  • Finalize your summer job plans and make a plan for saving a portion of your summer earnings. You’ll want to have some savings for any unexpected expenses you may have when you start college.
  • Prepare a realistic student budget.
  • Follow up with your high school to ensure the counselor forwards your final high school transcript to the college you plan to attend. If your college choice has changed, make sure the counselor knows that.
  • Request college transcripts for any dual credit courses you took in high school, a copy for you and a copy for the college you plan to attend.
  • Review the Mapping Your Future college packing list suggestions.
