A good life

About Mapping Your Future

One of the last times I was with my mother, I took her to the family farm.

It was a beautiful fall day, and we knew that this trip to the farm might be her last. As we headed back to the city, nature treated us to a masterpiece with the setting sun creating a dramatic sky of red and orange.

As she admired the sunset, she said, “You know, I’ve had a good life.”

With Mother’s Day this weekend, many of us will be thinking about those who have cared for us and taken on the role of mother in our lives. When you work in education, in many ways it’s not unlike the work of anyone who takes care of others. After all, you are helping students and preparing them for life.

And isn’t that what we want for our students as well as for our children – that when the sun sets for them – they can look back and say, “You know, I’ve had a good life.”

Happy Mother’s Day
