The Department of Education announced it has resolved a problem — for the most part, that is – with 2024-25 FAFSA information that was preventing schools from awarding financial aid to students.
According to the Department, some schools were receiving student records for the 2024-25 FAFSA that were missing a Student Aid Index (SAI) and no indication of how to address the issue. Federal Student Aid provided an April 10 update on the problem of ISIRs (student records) with a blank Student Aid Index (SAI) and no reject code. This issue was sometimes a result of a missing family size value, which required the student to make a correction to resolve.
Beginning February 24, the Department temporarily assigned Reject Code 68 and Comment Code 329 to these records. A new system-generated ISIR would have been sent to the school that no longer included Reject Code 68 and had a calculated SAI.
Some schools, however, did not receive a reprocessed ISIR with a calculated SAI. The Department is now working to resolve these records, with no action required by the school. Once the issue is resolved, the Department will post an update on the FAFSA Issue Alerts page.
