Financial aid professionals can now better prepare for the 2026-27 financial aid award year with updates to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).

The Department of Education (the Department) recently shared news of the updates along with a caveat that more updates may be needed if new regulations result from the federal rulemaking process.

In an April 24 Electronic Announcement, the Department outlined updates to NSLDS that were made available April 26 in preparation for the 2026-27 award year.

Since rulemaking is currently in process for many of the new provisions from the Budget Reconciliation Bill, any changes from the forthcoming regulations would be provided at a later date.

Detailed information regarding updates to the following is included in the Electronic Announcement:

  • NSLDS Academic Levels Updates
  • Loan Limit Exception Flag
  • Aggregate Loan Limit Updates
  • Graduate and Professional Aggregate Loan Limits
  • Parent PLUS Aggregate Loan Limit
  • Lifetime Maximum Aggregate Loan Limit
  • NSLDS Professional Access Updates
  • NSLDS TSM/FAH Updates
  • NSLDS Post-Screening Reason Codes Updates
