Financial aid administrators often face a complex process for determining eligibility for mid-year transfer students.
Mid-year transfer students – those who transfer from one school to another during the award year – understandably want to transfer their financial aid to their new school. However, the process of determining eligibility and packaging Title IV aid requires careful review and monitoring of prior aid received to ensure the student doesn’t receive aid in excess of annual limits.
The FSA Training Center has a learning track to assist financial aid administrators with this process. The learning track, Administering Aid for Mid-Year Transfer Students, addresses the following topics:
- Student eligibility considerations including Satisfactory Academic Progress and verification
- Calculating remaining Pell Grant eligibility for the award year at the new school using COD
- Packaging Direct Loans when academic years overlap between the two schools
- Steps to completing Transfer Student Monitoring in NSLDS
To enroll in this training:
- Go to fsatraining.ed.gov and log in
- Select “Learning Tracks”
- Select “Packaging Aid” to find the track on mid-year transfer students.
