Institutions with foreign ownership, gifts or contracts must submit disclosure reports with the federal government by the end of July.
In a July 6 Electronic Announcement, the Department of Education reminded institutions of higher education (IHEs) the next date for submitting Section 117 disclosure reports is Friday, July 31, 2026. In the announcement, the Department said a failure to comply with the reporting requirement could result in enforcement action.
The reporting requirement includes any institutions that are owned or controlled by a foreign source or receive a gift or enter into a contract with a foreign source in the amount of $250,000 or more within a calendar year.
The Department said on July 15, it will publish its next public report of foreign source reporting, which includes the names of all foreign sources from prior reporting cycles.
