EDExpress users should find it a little easier to process, package and manage financial aid with the latest fixes and updates to the software.
In an October 19 Electronic Announcement, the Department of Education announced that EDExpress for Windows 2026–27, Release 2.0 is now available, resolving, it said, several software issues reported to the FPS Help Desk. The Department also said the updated software better aligns the Direct Loan program award calculations with the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System.
Direct Loan Updates
The Direct Loan module has been updated to remove the Loan Limit Exception flag from the calculation process for the maximum value of the Loan Amount Approved field. This should help users avoid having to make adjustments in EDExpress when the calculated loan award amounts differ from the COD System.
The SOR (Schedule of Reduction) Annual Loan Limit field and the Loan Limit Exception flag have been retained for reference purposes only.
EDExpress will now calculate maximum loan amounts on loan type, dependency status, grade level, and other loan-specific fields such as the Additional Unsub, Prep Loan, and HEAL Loan flags.
More information on the edit updates can be found in Volume 3 of the 2026-27 COD Technical Reference.
Other Issues Resolved
The additional issues that have been resolved are outlined in the Electronic Announcement.
The announcement also includes information on downloading and running the EDExpress 2026-27 Service Release file.
