Colleges often have priority deadlines for the FAFSA to help determine who to consider for certain financial aid programs.
Please note: Some institutions may adjust their priority deadlines for 2025-26 due to the delay in the release of the FAFSA.

Below is a list of South Dakota colleges and universities with their priority FAFSA deadlines, as well as links to their websites.
- Augustana University: March 1
- Black Hills State University: For priority consideration, the FAFSA should be submitted as soon as possible after the filing period begins (anticipated December 1, 2024). Awards are made until all funds are depleted.
- Dakota State University: March 1
- Dakota Wesleyan University: February 1
- Lake Area Technical College: April 1
- Mitchell Technical College: April 1
- Mount Marty University: March 1
- National American University: April 1
- Northern State University: March 1
- Oglala Lakota College: April 20
- Sinte Gleska University: March 31
- Sisseton Wahpeton College
- South Dakota School of Mines & Technology: No priority deadline, but students should submit early. Institutional scholarship deadline is January 1.
- South Dakota State University: March 1. Note that priority date for admissions scholarships (for summer 2025 and fall 2025) is December 1, 2024.
- Southeast Technical College: February 25
- Stewart School
- University of Sioux Falls: March 1
- University of South Dakota: April 1. Note that many scholarships have a much earlier deadline of December 1.
