Educational institutions receiving Federal funding will want to make sure they are observing Constitution Day.
In a September 15 Dear College Letter (DCL), the Department of Education reminds schools of the requirement related to Constitution Day and Citizenship, observed on September 17 each year.
As part of the requirement, schools are required to provide an educational program on the United State Constitution for their students on or around September 17 annually.
Statutory language doesn’t specifically define “educational program” thus schools have flexibility in choosing how they observe the day. The DCL includes a list of suggested activities that schools can use in their planning, as well as a list of websites with resources.
Constitution Day is a yearly opportunity to promote civic awareness and understanding of our country’s Constitution to students and the campus community.
