Tip of the Week

A pleasant journey for the new year

I’ve made a lot of resolutions through the years.

Some of them I accomplished; more than I care to admit, I did not.

For example, just a few goals I have yet to accomplish (and maybe never will):

  • Winning a 5K race
  • Reading 100 books in a year
  • Learning to speak a foreign language fluently

Despite this lack of achievement, I still plan to set some goals for 2026. Because while I didn’t accomplish what I set out to achieve, I accomplished things I never expected:

  • The feeling of just finishing a 5K or half-marathon plus the people you meet, friends you make, and scenery you see along the way.
  • The joy of discovering some universal truth or maybe just being entertained by a book I never would have picked up if I wasn’t trying to read as much as possible.
  • The satisfaction of being able to communicate with someone (albeit very rough) in their native language.

What I’ve found, as have many others, I’m sure, is that the goal really isn’t the accomplishment.

It’s what you experience on your way to the goal.
