The impact through the years
A long-time family friend recently turned 100 years old.
It gave me pause to think about all he has seen and experienced in his 100 years and the impact it has had on his life.
There have been several wars involving the United States, the moon landing, the internet, cell phones, and a pandemic – just to name a few.
During his many years as a farmer, he obviously saw many changes in equipment and farming techniques as technology has had a significant impact on farming.
While none of us have been in financial aid for 100 years (even though it may seem like it some days!), take a minute to pause and think about the changes you’ve experienced since you started your career.
You may have heard of the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant or BEOG which preceded the Pell Grant, the Federal Family Educational Loan Program (FFELP) – a predecessor to Federal Direct Loans, and you may have heard of or experienced Reauthorization.
You may have led your staff through the pandemic, or you may have been a student during that time. Technology played a key role during the pandemic as virtual meetings, working remotely, and online classes became a part of our daily routines.
If you’ve been in financial aid for at least a year, you have experienced the overhaul of the FAFSA, and the related changes made by the Department of Education.
Positive – or not so positive – they undoubtedly have had an impact on your life.
