Understanding Take-Home Pay

Ongoing training is something that just comes with the territory of being a financial aid administrator.

To that end, Federal Student Aid (FSA) announced on August 5 newly redesigned and updated offerings in the FSA Training Center Learning Tracks, including an updated FSA Basic Training for New Staff.

Since the Learning Tracks are award year specific, FSA encourages the completion of training each year in order to keep current. Each participant’s “Record of Learning” will reflect this, and participants can download a “Certificate of Completion” for each track.

Several new learning tracks have been created for the 2024–25 award year:

  • Citizenship Eligibility in the Aid Application Process category
  • Aid Administration for Programs Offered in Modules in the Modules category
  • Managing a Federal Perkins Loan Portfolio in the Grants and Work Study category

The FSA Basic Training for New Staff is designed for new, entry-level financial aid administrators, as well as staff from outside of the financial aid office who want to learn more about the federal student aid programs.

Completion of the 12 modules will provide a basic understanding of federal student aid administration. The self-paced course takes 30-40 hours to complete.
