EDExpress users will want to take note of possible PC and system requirements planned for EDExpress 2027-28 for Windows.
In a June 24 Electronic Announcement, Federal Student Aid provided advance notice of enhancements planned for EDExpress 2027-28 for Windows that may require schools to update PC workstations and/or their overall system.
The EDExpress 2027-28 software will be available for download in late September 2026; however, schools do not need to install it until they start their 2027-28 processing. The new enhancements will not impact EDExpress 2026-27.
A few key things for EDExpress schools to know:
- Starting with 2027-28, the EDExpress software will require Microsoft SQL Server and will be updated to a 64-bit application to improve reliability, performance, and security.
- EDExpress will not support any other database system such as Oracle and PostgreSQL.
- Schools must provide and maintain the SQL Server environment as EDExpress will not install it automatically.
The announcement includes additional key points and next steps for schools, as well as the EDExpress 2027–28 System Requirements and FAQs in PDF Format attachment.
