G6 system outage July 26-29 will impact FSA processing and Title IV fund availability

If your office had plans to catch up on some work over the weekend, your plans may be on hold, particularly if it involves using the G6 or COD systems.

The Department of Education announced in GEN-24-87 that they will perform extended system maintenance to the G6 Grants Management System (G6) on July 26-29, 2024.

All day Friday, July 26 through 6 a.m. (Eastern) on Monday, July 29, the following will not be available:

  • G6 website – Campus-Based, Pell Grant, Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant, TEACH Grant, and Direct Loan will not be available for draw down or refunds.
  • Common Origination and Disbursement System (COD) – Users can submit Pell Grant, Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant, TEACH Grant, and Direct Loan records and COD will accept them. However, after 9 a.m. (Eastern) on July 25 the Current Funding Level (CFL) changes and funding will not be processed until G6 is once again available.

Actual disbursements with a disbursement date from July 26-29 must be received and accepted by COD no later than 9 a.m. (Eastern) on July 25. This will generate the appropriate funding level increase before the G6 shutdown.

Any disbursements submitted by the deadline but not subsequently accepted, or disbursements with a disbursement date after July 29 will be funded once G6 opens.

The Department anticipates being caught up with financial processing within a few days after July 29.
