July checklist for high school graduates

During your senior year, you made a lot of decisions, including finalizing your college choice. This year was filled with submitting admission applications, scholarship essays, financial aid information, and deadlines.

Below are the tasks you should complete during the month of July:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you have not already. Contact us at feedback@mappingyourfuture.org or by calling (800) 374-4072 with any questions when completing it.
  • Get help if you need it, such as contacting the financial aid office about changes in your family’s financial situation or the student affairs office if you are in need of other assistance.
  • Make sure that you have the right technology to allow you to participate in your classes, especially online classes. For example, you may need a set of headphones to listen to online lectures.
  • Save money from your summer job. This will come in handy for any unexpected expenses you may have at college.
  • Send thank you notes to everyone who helped you plan and prepare for college or for life after high school.
  • Make copies of your financial aid forms, health forms, etc. for your files to aid in resolving future issues. If you don’t like to have a paper file, scan documents and start a digital file.
  • Register for the fall semester (you’ll usually do this at new student orientation) or finalize enrollment in the education and training program you plan to pursue.
  • Make sure transcripts are sent to the college for any college credits you earned during high school through dual enrollment.
  • Review your packing list for college and shop around for the best deals.
  • Prepare for the new adventures that await you in the fall!

Congratulations! It’s time to get ready to start your life after high school.
