Tip of the Week

It’s been a fireworks show

For many of us, the highlight of July 4th is the fireworks show.

It’s always been one of my favorite things, especially seeing the night sky light up with the vibrant colors and patterns produced by the fireworks and hearing the “oohs and aahs” of the crowd.

And we all chuckle at the “duds” – the fireworks that only travel a few feet off the ground, produce a small flash, and release a sizzling sound as they land. These are often followed by a chorus of groans from the crowd.

A fireworks show might be a good way to describe the financial aid climate this past year.

The new regulations and changes schools are faced with implementing have been a fireworks show of their own.

Some changes have undoubtedly produced some “oohs and aahs” from financial aid professionals as they’ll have a positive impact on students.

Other changes? Well, they are like the “duds” of the firework show – with financial aid professionals emitting a loud groan as they work to figure out how to implement and explain to students and families.

As we approach the July 4th holiday, here’s hoping your fireworks produce more joy than frustration and you enjoy a relaxing holiday weekend.
