Updated draft 2026-27 Federal Student Aid Application materials available

Draft versions of the 2026-27 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) are now available for public comment.

In a May 16 Electronic Announcement, the Department of Education (ED) announced the availability of the draft forms and invited public comments.

ED is only seeking comments regarding the FAFSA form and the FAFSA Submission Summary. They request that comments regarding the FSA ID, verification process, or state deadlines should not be submitted during this comment period. The 60-day comment period closes on June 13, 2025.

The draft documents available for review include the following:

  • Updated draft of the 2026–27 FAFSA form
  • Updated draft of the 2026–27 FAFSA Submission Summary
  • Updated Summary of Enhancements to the 2026–27 FAFSA form
  • 2026–27 Data Elements Justification
  • Supporting Statement for the 2026-27 FAFSA form

The FAFSA form and FAFSA Submission Summary drafts can be viewed via https://www.reginfo.gov/public/do/PRAICList?ref_nbr=202501-1845-004 with the other documents available via https://www.reginfo.gov/public/do/PRAViewDocument?ref_nbr=202501-1845-004. When the web page opens, select the name of the document to be viewed in the “Form Name” column. 

Comments can be submitted electronically through the Federal eRulemaking Portal at https://reginfo.gov or by selecting https://www.reginfo.gov/public/do/PRA/icrPublicCommentRequest?ref_nbr=202501-1845-004.
